This is where I am supposed to make this cool artist's statement about my amazing insights into the world. But actually, my inspiration is pretty straight forward. I love fantasy and fairy tales. At one time, I longed to illustrate like Arthur Rackham or Edmund Dulac. Certainly I was heavily influenced by these two as well as Alan Lee and Brian Froud. Having lived in the Yukon now for over thirty years, the northern landscape, particularly the microcosmic landscape, has directed my work. I am self taught and work almost exclusively in watercolour although I illustrated River Fairies, by Yvonne Harris, in graphite. Currently, I exhibit at occasional solo and group shows and create commissioned works. I am also the chair of the Studio Gallery Association that does a really BIG group show every few years. Rob

The Other Me

I have studied martial arts my entire adult life. That's almost forty years now. In 1991, i founded the Kita Kaze Karate Club where I instruct in Shotokan karateand kobudo (Okinawan weaponry). One of my greatest loves over the past ten years has been iaido; the art of drawing and cutting with the Japanese sword.

The upshot of all this is that the Japanese aesthetic has begun to inform my work. It is obvious in the inro and boxes but I find myself sometimes leaning toward a cleaner, leaner type of watercolour work as well.
